What you can expect from me

Attention to detail

A good translation reads like an English original but reflects the style of the source text. Minor errors in the source document (typos, grammar) are silently corrected. Problems in the original that could affect the translation are called to your attention.

Completeness and accuracy

A good translation communicates the entire message. If questions of meaning remain unresolved, they are called to your attention. Additional explanations that appear necessary because of cultural differences may be embedded in the text where appropriate or given in accompanying notes.

Adherence to delivery schedule and specifications

I make every effort to accommodate special requests and work within your deadlines.

What I need from you

A clear written work order

Specify what you would like translated, the target readership or intended use, any special format requirements, when and how you would like it delivered, and how I can reach you if I have questions. Payment terms agreed upon orally should also be confirmed in writing.

Reference materials, if available

Glossaries, technical literature in English, or previous translations on the same subject can be useful. While terminology research is part of a translator's job, supporting materials from the client can shorten turnaround time and help ensure that the terminology in the translation conforms with that actually used in the field.
